BackupButler is a sophisticated, maintenace free appliance computer system designed to deliver total automated database backup and recovery for Oracle 8i, 9i and 10g, today. The Butler does not need
to be updated for new versions of Oracle like other software only based products.NEW! BACKUPBUTLER FORUM! FLASH ANIMATIONS,ON-LINE STORE AND FORUM BuckupButler comes with everything you need to automatically schedule, backup and restore multiple databases and consists of a clusterable hardware appliance with powerful processors, massive amounts of fast serial ATA disk, and host agent software. It is easy to install within one hour. For very long term storage you can still use tape to archive any obsolete backup set you don't need on disk directly from the appliance with built-in archive tasks. The important concept here is recovery from DISK, not tape. Anyone who tells you they have a "disk to disk" backup system usually requires only two questions to expose the problem: (1) Do you recover from disk or tape? Tape recovery is NOT a disk to disk backup system. (2) Do your backup files or any part of the recovery system (catalog, task logs) stay on your current NAS or SAN? If they do then you are not protected from SAN or NAS failure. And what about disaster recovery? Does anyone really believe that sending a tape offsite without a recovery catalog or current backup logs will actually suffice for a recovery system? You need a completely self contained system with it's own built in infrastructure, completely separate from everything else in your shop. That's what backup and recovery is all about. Every major backup and recovery vendor wants you to believe that tape is ok, it's just slow on the recovery and occasionally unrecoverable but those are just a few of the necessary evils. And they want you to believe that the 2 months and the 4 person team required to build and test a recovery infrastructure is no big deal. Just buy their software. And then install the tape system. And then the tape drivers. And then the database catalog. And then the backup software. And then the monitoring software. Maybe that's why Oracle statistics show only 2% of Oracle databases backed up by RMAN, the premier Oracle backup and recovery tool. And if you think that disk snapshots are any better consider that your snapshots are going off to tape, snapshots are not point in time recovery capable, and they're very expensive because you're using costly SAN or NAS disk. Snapshots are expensive disasters waiting to happen. BackupButler for Oracle Buckup Butler comes with everything you need to automatically schedule, backup and restore multiple databases with Oracle RMAN and consists of a hardware appliance with pre-installed software, massive amounts of fast serial ATA disk, and our host agent software. It has built in clustering for availability and entire system mirror across WAN for disaster recovery. You can't get this capability from anyone today except BackupButler. BackupButler delivers to you all the infrastructure and automation necessary to protect all your databases with RMAN, not just the high profile ones. Butler disks can be mounted directly on your server using our integrated iSCSI technology, or with our integrated NFS (for unix) and SAMBA (for Windows). iSCSI allows us to mirror or duplicate disks on the system in the same room for high availability, or across the world wide wan to locations on the other side of the world. This is a state of the art disaster recovery capability. BackupButler allows you to duplicate databases easily for recovery utility or testing, since it keeps backup metadata in it's own database in addition to the RMAN catalog. This is RMAN+ since BackupButler provides additional embedded Butler tags in the RMAN task stream to do all the otherwise manual tasks for you automatically. RMAN is the premier Oracle Backup solution and in the future will be the only backup solution certified by Oracle. BackupButler is currently in use by industry leaders :
Oracle 8i, 9i, 10g: Take our backup quiz! A "NO" to any question here means you aren't backing up your database properly: BackupButler for Oracle has a built in RMAN database, massive network mountable disk space, built in webserver and built in GUI interface for scheduling, monitoring and running backup and recovery tasks automatically. Backup files and histories are stored inside the appliance for immediate access. Automatic email notification occurs at the error level you chose. BackupButler is the fastest backup system on the planet, files go to disk and always stay on disk unless you choose to archive to tape specifically. Our Parallel multi channel write speeds cannot be duplicated with tape. Our systems are never the bottleneck in a backup regime because your server can't write the files to our system fast enough. Our systems are so fast that our customers regularly schedule multiple channel backups to the appliance concurrently. Platforming your backups to an appliance allows never before levels of reusability and capability. Our automated refresh capability replaces Oracle Standby database completely. You execute a backup from one node, a refresh on the standby node, and you have a robust Standby database replacement.
